What signs are there that your elderly family member may need a protective proceeding called a conservatorship? San Fernando Valley Conservatorship Attorney, Mina Sirkin has identified those signs:
1. The person is unable to provide food for themselves. Refrigerator does not have any fresh or healthy foods and cabinets may not have any dry food in them.
2. The house is a mess. Hoarding is often a precursor to a conservatorship proceeding. An elder may not be willing to understand or see that the house needs cleaning.
3. Bills are unpaid and late.
4. There are piles of unopened letters and mail.
5. The elder or disabled person does not participate in self-care activities such as bathing, or changing clothing.
6. Doctors appointments are missed and nothing is rescheduled.
7. Money is missing or there is someone trying to influence the elderly to part with their money or property.
